Solving equations encompasses other mathematical concepts such as inverse operations, combining like terms, and distributing, which you may have learned in your previous classes. If you do not recall these key concepts, have no fear we will go over them throughout the lessons. Each assignment will be posted to our Moodle Classroom along with the due dates. Assignments may be given in the form of videos, worksheets, PowerPoints, activities, etc. The assignment description will always specify what is required of you. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at gtufano@albany.edu. I look forward to working with you all this semester!

In this course we will explore costume as a cultural artifact that reveals a character's background/heritage, life experience and world view within the larger narrative of a character's story. Students will look to literature (a novel, poem, fable, or myth), a film, or an episodic series from which to choose their focal character.

Through exploring the character's costume, students will also be considering the environment and time period in which their character's story takes place. The course will guide students to compare and contrast their chosen characters' costumes and the meaning, purpose, and traditions that the costumes reveal.

Along with developing analytical design skills, the course seeks to broaden students' awareness of cultures other than their own and build cultural competence. Although this course is designed with theater/film/television students in mind, the course could also be offered in the departments of Language Arts, Anthropology, Sociology, or History in addition to being part of a Performing Arts and Media curriculum.
