The course, Author’s Purpose, will help middle school students to understand why writers make the decisions they do—from the largest decisions about what information to present to the smallest details of what words to use. Being aware of the author's purpose when you read helps you evaluate how well the author has achieved the purpose and decide whether you want to follow where the author is trying to lead you. Students will identify the correlation between author’s purpose and point of view which will lay the foundation for critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts. By the end of this course, students will be able to correctly identify not only the type of text, but also its purpose and the author’s point of view.
