Adaptive and Assistive Technology: Bridging the Disability Gap

Assistive Technology is defined by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) as Any item, piece of equipment or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of children with disabilities.  While the devices can be used, Assistive Technology includes anything that can improve daily function of a person with disabilities such as wheelchairs/Hoyers.  In this online class we will discuss different types of Assistive Technology devices such as Proloque, Ipads, etc. and how they improve learning and overall function while learning about the history of the device or tool.
