Parasitology - An upper level biology course, elective biology course for third-year and fourth-year students enrolled in the Animal Science and Fisheries and Wildlife programs. This course provides an introduction to the parasitic diseases of domestic and wild animals with emphasis on their biology and control. Together we will research the life cycles, prepatent periods, treatments and control of a various parasites and the impact they have on hosts.
Students will be able to identify the importance and concern of parasites in domestic animals and wildlife. Classify genus and species of specific parasites. Distinguish life cycles of specific parasites. Demonstrate laboratory techniques in the preparation of a variety of specimen samples for evaluation (macro and micro). Discover the diversity of the parasitic way of life. Explain parasitic preventatives and hypothesize specific treatments.
