6th Grade Vietnam War Mini-Unit

Civil Disobedience: Is it always right to obey?

This is a 4 week unit consisting of 4 modules.

This mini-unit contains components of civics, economics, geography and history. Students will briefly be introduced to the Vietnam War, a topic that is not presented in typical grade 6 social studies textbooks. We will explore the concept of civil disobedience by learning about the Vietnam War itself, communism vs. capitalism, the draft, and protesting groups. Students will be become familiar with protesting and the importance of standing up for what they believe in. This mini-unit will demonstrate that America is not necessarily a country that has “won every battle” as U.S. history tends to only glorify the positive aspects of battles our country encounters.
