Ecology- Organisms and Ecosystems

All living organisms on Earth rely on each other in some way, and these complex interactions, along with species’ environments, maintain a balance. This balance is called homeostasis and everything works together to try and maintain this balance while also trying to survive. Homeostasis can be disrupted when some factor alters this delicate balance, and this can occur in many ways, the biggest of which is human interference. This course is designed to examine the intricate relationships between organisms and their environment. Participants will learn about interactions between organism including food webs, food chains, energy transfer through trophic levels, species relationships, and human effects on ecosystems. Participants will also learn about different levels of organization from organisms to ecosystems, and describe the roles organisms play in their ecosystem. This course can help participants gain an understanding of complex interconnectedness between organisms and how different living things rely on each other for survival.
