Literary Devices
This course focuses on literary devices. Literary devices are aspects of literature that are used to strengthen the expression, meaning, explanation and connectivity of a writing piece. It is what gives the story life. Literary devices include elements such as, characters, conflicts, themes, point of view, figurative language and more. The goal of this course is for students to be able to identify, interpret and create literary devices in literature. Literary devices enhance the quality of writing and are frequently seen state assessments. The literature and writing for this course will be presented at a fourth/ fifth grade reading level.

-conflict and resolution
-setting and plot
- main idea vs. theme
-point of view
-foreshadowing and flashback
-figurative language
