Welcome to the wonderful world of Spanish! Spanish 1, now offered online, is a course that will introduce you to the Spanish language and culture while setting you up for success for those who choose to continue onto Spanish 2. We will work through the year at a steady pace and will complete a variety of assignments to best explore the language & culture of the Spanish speaking world; it is imperative that you remain open minded, and is encouraged to use your own background and personal experiences to help you draw comparisons between new concepts in the target language or culture and that of your own. The main goals of this course are to enhance communication skills through reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as to gain new perspectives on Spanish-based cultures both within and outside the United States. To be successful in this course not only will you need to submit assignments on time, be open minded and willing to explore new cultures but also will need to be organized and claim responsibility for your learning. Learning in an online environment requires discipline and an active effort, trying to apply passive learning in this environment will result in a failing grade.
