Everyday Spanish in the Professional World-- Course Description:

This course will explore the grammatical and language features that are used for communication in the professional world with the goal of further developing communicative proficiency and cultural awareness as they are related to particular domains of the professional world. Topics explored will include Spanish in the business world, in the medical field, in the world of education, and in the legal world. Students in this course will actively engage in discussions and dialogue in the target language, acquiring vocabulary and grammatical structures to facilitate in developing their written and oral communicative skills, as well as reading and listening comprehension in Spanish.

Course Objectives: Through successful completion of this course, students will be able to…

  • Engage in meaningful discourse in the target language to develop understanding of issues and current events in four domains of the professional world.

  • Recognize the importance of and employ correct usage of Spanish in the four domains of the professional world where English remains the dominant language.

  • Accurately employ acquired vocabulary and grammar structures in oral and written conversations related to each of the four domains of the professional world.

  • Communicate clearly and efficiently in oral and written modes to provide information, ask for particular details, and establish mutual understanding with members of the Spanish-speaking community in real-life situations related to each domain of the professional world.

  • Identify careers in each of the four domains of the professional world, detailing uses of Spanish, benefits of bilingualism, and particular linguistic features related to that particular career

Module 6: Conclusion (Final Project)


Each module will consist in: Vocabulary and Grammar instruction and practice activities ; Collaborative discussions with peers based on texts ; Speaking practice situations with peer feedback ; and a Zoom chat with the teacher based on a real-life situation as related to the content of that particular module (quiz grade).
