Topic: Gamifying Your Digital Classroom

Course Description:

Gamifying classrooms is not a new concept. The idea has been around for years. I can recall my Economics teacher playing a game of “real estate” with my senior class. In which front row desks were free to sit at, but you had to earn ‘classroom cash’ to purchase seats in the back. It was fun, engaging, and hit home with concepts of supply and demand really well. “We recommend that educators interested in gamification give it a try” (Kennette & Beechler. 2019).

What you will get out of this course will be an appreciation and application for gamifying your classroom for distance learning. You will explore the research behind gamifying your classroom, look at some examples, and then start to create your own gamified process for your classroom.

This course will focus on three main areas for your development of this process.

  1. Review: Review the Research of Gamification in Classrooms

  2. Explore: Work through examples of two forms of gamification in classrooms live and digital

  3. Build: Use a step by step model to create a gamified lesson or unit of your classroom
