This course will explore the foundations of historical fiction as we navigate through time and trials, looking at diverse perspectives and the social impacts of significant global events from our past. Parts of this course will expose the author's purpose and craft, as well as the elements of research that are required for accurate historical depiction in a fictional context. As a culminating project, students will choose a historical event and write their own short story. We will dive into a series of popular adolescent historical fiction novels, including The Cay, Wednesday Wars, and War Horse, as a segway into those important elements of the genre.
