Psychiatric Epidemiology

This course will provide students with a strong foundation to generate important research questions and conduct ethical studies in psychiatric epidemiology.  We will discuss the history and ethics of psychiatric epidemiology; challenges in measuring psychiatric disorders; major study designs used in psychiatric epidemiology; and recent methodological developments in this field.  Students will learn to critique existing psychiatric epidemiology studies, with a focus on study flaws and potential biases that may hamper our ability to identify risk factors and beneficial interventions for psychiatric disorders in clinical and community-based populations.
